So uh, about a year ago, I bought a PS3. Really bad investment, I know, but I dislike RPCS3 and I wanted to play Metal Gear Solid 4.
I'm just gonna talk about some of my favorite things about the console.
The XMB: The background of this webpage is basically the PS3 XMB background. I just find it to be really calming. Thankfully, Sony never changed it during the console's lifespan. Fun fact, did you know that if you shook your controller, the particles would move!? Ah, Sixaxis.
PSN: PSN was alright from a feature standpoint, less than Xbox Live, but it was okay. Downloads were absolutely annoying though. Well, PSN was the last time we ever got free online play. After that, there was less and less of a reason to buy a console. 8th gen did away with specialized hardware, instead opting for whatever AMD had in store at the time which meant that consoles were closer to PCs. Then they started porting to PC, which means less exclusives. Not a huge loss. Then they're slowly getting rid of discs, which means the death of used games. And now, the pricing. The one thing I (and most people) thought was the main reason why consoles made sense, and Sony messed up with the PS5 Pro. Great. Seems like sony never learns, because the PS5 Pro is the same price as the launch PS3 20GB model. And you don't even get a black trim!
The games: yeah yeah, PS3 has no games, and that was true up until 2009. That was when the PS3 Slim launched, and made the PS3 make sense by making it look less like a space heater, and making it cheaper. God, remember when consoles actually became cheaper over time!? It also just so happened to be the time Sony started making exclusive games people actually cared about. Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Modnation Racers, Gran Turismo, Infamous, and right at the end, The Last Of Us. So, by the end of the generation, the PS3 got games. Thankfully, we now have the PS5 to make fun of.
